CHARLESTON -– Kathy G. Beckett, a member in the Jackson Kelly Environmental Department, was recently elected to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors as its only West Virginia representative.
She was voted onto the board in November 2010. The board is comprised of 125 business people from across the United States.
As part of her two-year term, Beckett will work to oversee the chamber's activities. In addition, she will also serve on the Environment and Energy Committee, which is responsible for developing and maintaining chamber policy on all aspects of environmental and energy law.
Upon completion of this term, Beckett will be eligible for two additional two-year terms.
"I believe that my participation on the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Board is a great opportunity for Jackson Kelly to communicate our clients' goals and objectives on a national level," Beckett said.
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world's largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations.
More than 96 percent of U.S. Chamber members are small businesses with 100 employees or fewer. The mission of the U.S. Chamber is, "to advance human progress through an economic, political and social system based on individual freedom, incentive, initiative, opportunity and responsibility."

Beckett's practice at Jackson Kelly is focused on environmental matters. She has experience in state and federal regulatory and statutory advocacy and program development in each of the primary environmental programs.
She has participated in the drafting of numerous regulatory and statutory environmental provisions for the state of West Virginia. Beckett has experience in federal appellate litigation with an emphasis upon review of federal agency rulemaking.
