CHARLESTON -– Mike Stuart, Chairman of the West Virginia Republican Party, is in Taiwan on an eight-day mission as part of a 10-member national delegation from the Republican National Committee.

The trip is sponsored and coordinated by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO) and will include visits with government and industry leaders of the island nation. Stuart will hand deliver a letter to Taiwan's President from Acting Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin.

"I am looking forward to representing the people of West Virginia in Taiwan as we visit with the nation's leadership and work to strengthen ties between our nations," Stuart said before his trip. "International trade and international partners are critical to rebuilding West Virginia and I intend to strongly assure Taiwan's leadership that West Virginia can be a wonderful partner in the growth of both our economies.

"As a representative of the people of West Virginia, I travel not only as a Republican but as a West Virginian. I requested and received from Senate President acting as Governor Tomblin a letter to the President of Taiwan that I will hand deliver. Its message is one that I plan to emphasize throughout my trip that West Virginia is a wonderful location for investment and partnership.

"It is also a wonderful message to my Taiwanese hosts that Democrats and Republicans can work together for the common goal of building a better West Virginia."

Stuart also will be bearing gifts.

"As a token of appreciation from me and the people of West Virginia, I will be presenting to leaders in Taiwan beautiful gifts of Ron Hinkle Glass from Buckhannon and Blenko Glass from Milton," Stuart said. "From the moment I leave West Virginia, I will be working non-stop to create new opportunities for jobs and growth for West Virginia's economy through mutual respect and collaboration.

"I am excited to share the wonderful message of the remarkable people and State of West Virginia."
