MORGANTOWN -- The West Virginia University Alumni Association's Loyalty Permanent Endowment Fund (LPEF) Board of Trustees has appointed James C. Gardill as its newest member of the Trust Committee.

Gardill replaces the late James R. McCartney who served as a trustee for more than 28 years.

Gardill, a 1973 graduate of the WVU College of Law, is a partner in the law firm of Phillips, Gardill, Kaiser & Altmeyer, PLLC, with offices in Wheeling. He has been associated with the firm in commercial, tax and estate planning practice for more than 39 years.

"Jim is an outstanding addition to our Trust Committee," said Stephen L. Douglas, president & chief executive officer of the WVU Alumni Association and executive secretary of the LPEF. "His legal expertise and background will be an asset as we continue to grow this scholarship program to assist even more students who want to make their dreams come true at WVU."

Gardill attended Wheeling College and received an A.B. Degree from West Liberty University. After serving two years in the United States Army, he received his law degree from WVU. He is admitted to practice before the United States Tax Court and various federal and state courts.

He has lectured on a variety of commercial law subjects and is a former lecturer at the Tri-State Institute, Commercial Law Institutes and other continuing education programs. He also served as an adjunct lecturer at the WVU College of Law. He also was a member of the WVU Alumni Association Board of Directors, serving as chairman from 2007-09.

Gardill is also chairman of WesBanco, Inc., a banking corporation headquartered in Wheeling, and serves on the board of directors for Easter Seals Rehabilitation Center, Inc., Reynolds Memorial Foundation, Inc. and the West Virginia Catholic Foundation, Inc.

For nearly 75 years, the LPEF has helped more than 4,000 deserving students realize their dreams at WVU. Funded entirely from unsolicited private donations, the LPEF is a contributing source of funds to the WVU Scholars Program. The LPEF was established in 1937 by the WVU Alumni Association and has more than $11 million in assets.
