CHARLESTON – Jackson Kelly is opening a new office in Evansville, Indiana, to serve its growing energy practice.
The office will be initially staffed by attorneys William C. Illingworth, Brandon S. Renner and Chad J. Sullivan who recently joined the firm. Evansville is Jackson Kelly's second office in Indiana. The firm opened an Indianapolis office last July.
Jackson Kelly CEO Michael D. Foster said the expansion into Evansville is in response to continued client needs. The firm currently has offices throughout the Ohio Valley and Rocky Mountain Regions.
Foster said, "The market demand for coal, which is growing in the Illinois Basin region of western Kentucky, Indiana and southern Illinois, is driving our clients to develop their assets in this region. To better serve them, we are expanding our coal practice to establish a physical presence in the region where our clients are locating. All energy industries – those who produce as well as consume energy – face unprecedented regulation. It is essential that our clients' legal issues are approached from both a local and industry perspective. Increased enforcement and oversight activity by the EPA, MSHA and other state and federal agencies require compliance with numerous complex legal requirements. With our growing presence in Indiana, Jackson Kelly will help them meet those requirements while continuing to operate profitably."
Sullivan, who will serve as manager of the Evansville office, added that the Illinois Basin coal fields expect to play a larger role nationally and internationally in energy production. He said, "Given the direct proximity of the Port of Evansville on the inland waterways system, coal companies are able to export through the Gulf of Mexico allowing for more expeditious delivery to international consumers."
Both Illingworth and Renner's practices focus on coal, oil and gas, real estate law and commercial transactions. Sullivan primarily focuses in commercial litigation and labor and employment law.
