BRIDGEPORT -– Steptoe & Johnson attorney, Richard "Dink" Yurko was recently presented with the A.S. "Buddy" Ammar Kiwanian of the Year award during the West Virginia District Kiwanis convention.

Yurko was honored based upon his "dedicated focus to the continued growth and leadership of the Kiwanis family as demonstrated by his involvement in the entire Kiwanis community of West Virginia."

Yurko began his long affiliation with Kiwanis when he joined the Weir High School Key Club. Throughout the years, Dink has worked tirelessly on numerous events and fundraisers and has become a stabilizing force for the Kiwanis Club of Bridgeport since 1986, serving as its President and Secretary.

Yurko also serves the West Virginia District Key Club as Administrator, serving as a guide and mentor to the area's young leaders. In addition, Yurko served as the Advisor to the Bridgeport Middle School Builders Club and Key Club Advisor for Bridgeport, Lincoln and Buckhannon Upshur High Schools.

In 2011, the Kiwanis Club of Bridgeport established the Susan Gail Yurko Memorial Scholarship Fund, in honor and recognition of the selfless dedication and hard work of both Yurko and his wife.

Within the practice of law, Yurko concentrates his practice in the areas of employment law litigation and insurance fraud. Having joined Steptoe & Johnson in 1984, he has tried over 50 jury cases throughout the State of West Virginia and in federal court and has argued appeals in the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.

A graduate of West Virginia University (J.D., M.P.A.) and the United States Air Force Academy (B.S.), Yurko serves as the firm's Education Law Team leader.
