New topics coming in November to 'The Law Works'

Ringer

CHARLESTON -- During the month of November, "The Law Works" will discuss the aspects of practicing law in a rural community, how prosecutors select cases, and what happens to "abandoned" property.

Join host Dan Ringer as he discusses the law and how it affects your daily life each Thursday at 8:30 p.m. on West Virginia PBS.

Nov. 3: "Rural Lawyers" – Most of the state's citizens live in rural communities. When you need a lawyer, who are you going to call? Ringer's guests are J. Burton Hunter III of Buckhannon and Patrick A. Nichols of Parsons.

Nov. 10: "The Function of the Prosecuting Attorney" – In most counties, the office of the prosecuting attorney serves as the chief law enforcement official. They are responsible for many things including deciding which cases to prosecute. This week's guest is Patrick N. Wilson, prosecuting attorney of Marion County.

Nov. 17: "Unclaimed Property" – The Treasurer of West Virginia, John Perdue, will join Ringer in discussing what happens to long-forgotten assets -– everything from jewelry to property to royalties. Perdue will present a check to Ringer for assets found in his late mother's estate.

"The Law Works" is the state's only weekly television show discussing legal issues that affect the lives of every day citizens. Watch "The Law Works" each Thursday at 8:30 p.m. on West Virginia PBS and WV PBS.HD and Fridays at 11 a.m. on WV PBS.2.

Join the discussion about topics presented in the program on The Law Works Facebook page.

Episodes of The Law Works may also be viewed in their entirety on the West Virginia Public Broadcasting website and the West Virginia Public Broadcasting You Tube channel.

More information about this week's and recent topics from the program is available at the The Law Works website, including YouTube postings of recent programs. There is also a general resource page offering links to a variety of legal sources.
