LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Support the Crane Operators Fairness Bill

Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor:

In any economic environment, a government policy that mandates purchasing goods or services from a single company is distressing.

In the current economic climate any policy that makes jobs harder to fill is unacceptable. Both these situations are taking place in West Virginia, and your help can save significant labor cost.

West Virginia has regulations that create a monopoly for the most expensive company qualified to provide certifications for crane operators.

We are asking citizens to contact your state representative. A list of Senators and Delegates can be found at www.legis.state.wv.us. Ask them to sponsor or support a Crane Operators Fairness Bill.

The bill simply needs to say:

Crane operators in the State of West Virginia will be approved for license when the operators meet OSHA requirements for accredited certification or recertification by an organization accredited by nationally recognized certification agency, ANSI (American National Standards Institute) OR NCCA (National Commission for Certifying Agencies).

Call, email or write your state legislators today. You can help West Virginia workers!

Sincerely,
Debbie Dickinson
Executive Director of Crane Institute of America Certification (CIC)
