W.Va. auto workers endorse Chafin

Chafin

CHARLESTON -– The West Virginia State United Auto Workers Community Action Program (C.A.P.) Council and the United Auto Workers Local Union 1590 have endorsed Tish Chafin for the state Supreme Court of Appeals.

"The active and retired auto workers throughout West Virginia are proud to endorse Tish Chafin for the West Virginia Supreme Court. We are endorsing Tish because she stands for a level playing field and a balanced court," said Ken Collinson, President of the West Virginia State UAW C.A.P. Council. "That's what we want, that's what all West Virginians want, and we will support her efforts for that."

The endorsement follows other Chafin endorsements from the AFL-CIO, UMWA, AFT-WV, CWA-WV, UTU, South Central Labor Council, State Building and Construction Trades Council, West Virginia Sheriffs' Association and the Deputy Sheriffs' Association.

"I am honored to receive the West Virginia State United Auto Workers Community Action Program Council and the United Auto Workers Local Union 1590 endorsement for our state's highest court," Chafin said. "I consider myself a consensus candidate. I have the support of business leaders, working families and law enforcement groups across the state."

Chafin, a Charleston attorney, is one of six Democratic candidates. Joining her are current Justice Robin Jean Davis, circuit judges Jim Rowe and J.D. Beane, current Supreme Court law clerk Louis Palmer and New Martinsville attorney H. John "Buck" Rogers.

Supreme Court law clerk Allen Loughry and Circuit Judge John Yoder are the Republicans running for two spots on the bench in this spring's primary.

The primary election is May 8, and the general election is Nov. 6.
