PERSONNEL FILE: Steptoe & Johnson receives pro bono service award

BRIDGEPORT -– Steptoe & Johnson has been awarded the Kaufman Pro Bono Award for the fifth consecutive year.

The award was presented by members of the West Virginia State Bar during its annual meeting. The Kaufman award recognizes a law firm for its outstanding philanthropic work.

Attorneys and paralegals throughout the firm donated nearly 5,000 hours of free legal counseling to help needy individuals and organizations that serve communities throughout the state. Legal Aid of West Virginia, West Virginia Senior Legal Aid, Habitat for Humanity, West Virginia Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children (CASA) and The Living Room of Morgantown are some of the many organizations benefiting from the firm's philanthropic efforts.

"Philanthropy continues to be of paramount interest to our firm," began Melissa Watkins, Pro Bono Coordinator for Steptoe & Johnson. "Our attorneys and staff are enthusiastic and committed regarding their service to society, and we see it as our duty to help improve lives. We are honored to receive this award, and we look forward to continuing work in the community,"Watkins said.
