CHARLESTON -– Jackson Kelly attorney Taunja Willis-Miller was honored as a West Virginia State Bar Foundation Fellow during the 14th Annual Bar Foundation Fellows dinner April 26.
The honor of Fellow recognizes those lawyers and members of the judiciary whose professional, public and private careers have demonstrated dedication to the welfare of their communities and honorable service to the legal profession with the individuals selected reflecting the diverse nature of the legal profession in West Virginia.
Willis-Miller, one of only 20 recipients of this honor in 2012, is a member of Jackson Kelly in the firm's Morgantown, West Virginia, office and has a broad-based business practice. She represents hospitals, other healthcare providers, 501(c)(3) organizations and higher-education institutions in financial and other business transactions, including tax-exempt financings, and in organizational matters. Taunja has represented several governmental entities and nonprofit corporations in transitioning healthcare facilities from public to private status. She has been involved as bond counsel, hospital counsel, underwriter's counsel or trustee's counsel in most hospital financings in West Virginia. Willis-Miller also works in the areas of economic development, regularly representing governmental entities; commercial transactions, including bank financings and the purchase and sale of assets and low income housing tax credits.
The Bar Foundation is a philanthropic organization for the legal profession and justice system in West Virginia. Among other services, the Foundation gives grants to organizations that provide legal services to low income citizens and that improve the administration of justice. The organization also selects Bar Foundation Fellows, who are outstanding lawyers and members of the judiciary.
