HARPERS FERRY -- FARM PAC, the political action committee of the West Virginia Farm Bureau, has announced that it is endorsing Circuit Judge John Yoder for the State Supreme Court election this November.
According to the Farm Bureau website (www.wvfarm.org), the organization represents more than 17,000 farm families in West Virginia, making it the largest agricultural organization in the state.
At the national level, the American Farm Bureau Federation represents more than 5 million member families throughout the country.
"Obviously, I'm humbled to receive the endorsement of the Farm Bureau," Yoder said. "This is a highly respected organization, one I have worked with on many important public policy issues during my eight years in the State Senate.
"They are well-informed citizens who really care about the future of our state, for the sake of their children and grandchildren."
Yoder serves Berkeley, Jefferson, and Morgan counties as a Circuit Judge, making him the only candidate of the four running this fall with actual experience as a trial judge. Yoder narrowly lost to incumbent Justice Tom McHugh in 2010.
Yoder has experience in all three branches of government, having also served as a Reagan appointee in the Justice Department in the early 1980s, in addition to being elected to eight years in the West Virginia Legislature. Earlier in his career, Yoder also workeed for the U.S. Supreme Court, serving on the staff of the Chief Justice.
"Because I have served in the executive, legislative, and judicial branches, I know which duties each branch should do under the Constitution," said Yoder. "You will not see me legislating from the bench."
