Man claims college, employee guilty of retaliatory harassment

MOOREFIELD -- An employee of a local college is suing the school and his supervisor, alleging retaliatory harassment after testifying at trial about previous alleged harassment.

Robert Eagle filed a lawsuit June 29 in Hardy Circuit Court against Eastern West Virginia Community and Technical College and Charles Terrell.

According to the complaint, Eagle, employed by the defendant college, was threatened with termination for vague reasons, and in September 2013, defendant Terrell announced Eagle's termination but didn't follow through.

The suit says on Dec. 2, 2014, Eagle testified at the Timothy Riggleman jury trial about the threatened termination, then, nine days later, Terrell allowed a communication to be disseminated across campus that "the jury's verdict, which was based in part on Robert Eagle's testimony, was based on a good deal of conflicting information."

The suit suit says on March 10 and April 15, 2015, Eagle was "unfairly disciplined" for an "alleged violation of the college's policies," and his employer "created an abusive working environment."

The defendants, the lawsuit states, "engaged in a pattern of abusive behavior and unwarranted threats" after the plaintiff testified at trial.

Eagle seeks seeks damages up to $1 million, plus court costs. He is is represented by attorney Harley O. Staggers of Staggers & Staggers in Keyser.
