Counting the days until the EPA’s war on coal can be stopped

It's more than 17 months away – more than 500 days, more than 12,000 hours – but it can't come soon enough.

Jan. 20, 2017, is our republic's next Inauguration Day – the day when Barack Obama will leave the White House as his successor is being sworn in as the next president of these United States.

Assuming his replacement is a Republican-- the Environmental Protection Agency's long war on West Virginia and our coal industry should come to an end.

But 17 months is a long time, and a lot can happen between now and then.

That's why it's important to keep fighting back against the usurpations of the EPA and other rogue agencies and employees of this federation administration.

Fighting back is what Patrick Morrisey and 14 other state attorneys general have been doing and will keep doing for the next 500-plus days.

Two months ago, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia declined the request made by Morrisey and his colleagues to review the proposed Clean Power Plan.

Now that the EPA rule has been finalized, Morrisey, et al. have asked the court to issue an emergency stay to postpone deadlines imposed by the plan.

“This rule is the most far-reaching energy regulation in the nation’s history, and the EPA simply does not have the legal authority to carry it out,” Morrisey states. “With this rule, the EPA is attempting to transform itself from an environmental regulator to a central planning agency for states’ energy economies.”

Morrisey and the other AGs “want to ensure that no more taxpayer money or resources are wastefully spent in an attempt to comply with this unlawful rule that we believe will ultimately be thrown out in court.”

Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty, and we'd better remain vigilant – for at least the next 12,000 hours.
