Man blames Bluefield Regional, doctor in wife's death

PRINCETON – A Mercer County man alleges his late wife’s doctor committed malpractice, leading to her death, when she was a patient at Bluefield Regional Medical Center.

Daniel T. Halsey filed a complaint in Mercer Circuit Court against Dr. Mohannad Bisharat and Bluefield Hospital Co. LLC, doing business as Bluefield Regional Medical Center, citing negligence and medical malpractice.

Halsey says that on Sept. 16, 2013, his wife, Tamara, underwent a cardiac catheterization with balloon angioplasty and stent placement performed by Bisharat. Halsey says Bisharat and Bluefield’s nursing staff failed to adequately monitor his wife for post-surgical bleeding. As a result, the suit claims Tamara Halsey bled to death shortly after the operation.

Halsey seeks a jury trial. He is being represented by William M. Tiano of the Charleston law firm of Tiano O’Dell and by David D. Daggett of the Winston-Salem, North Carolina law firm of Dagget Shuler Law. The case has been assigned to Mercer Circuit Judge Derek C. Swope.
