Man claims rehab center's negligence caused woman's death

Hospital

HUNTINGTON – A Charleston rehab center is being sued over a death a family claims could have been prevented.

Mickey Bryant, acting as administrator of the estate of Rebecca Bryant, filed a lawsuit on Oct. 30 in Cabell Circuit Court against Seventeenth Street Associates LLC, doing business as Huntington Health and Rehabilitation Center, claiming Rebecca Bryant was negligently treated at its facility.

According to the complaint, Rebecca Bryant was admitted to the facility after a right frontal craniotomy with a resection of craniopharyngioma and a feeding tube on Sept. 27, 2014. Bryant claims that on Oct. 9, 2014, Rebecca Bryant was found unresponsive by Huntington staff, and that it was later discovered she had aspirated on feeding tubes. Bryant claims her conditioned worsened until she finally died the following day. Bryant claims this would not have happened had it not been for the negligence of the facility.

Bryant is seeking compensatory and punitive damages, prejudgment and post-judgment interest, costs and attorney's fees, as well as any other relief the court sees fit. Bryant is represented by Scott H. Kaminski of Balgo & Kaminski LC in Charleston. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Christopher D. Chiles.
