Woman sues Advance Auto Parts over negligence claims after tripping on rug

File4201334044629

BECKLEY – A woman is suing an auto parts store over claims that tripping over the store's rug caused extensive injuries.

Joann Lilly filed the suit Dec. 8 in Raleigh Circuit Court against Advance Stores Co., doing business as Advance Auto Parts, citing negligence.

According to the complaint, on Dec. 13, 2013, the Lilly was a costumer at the defendant's Beaver store. While she exited the store, she allegedly tripped on a rug, falling into the glass door, and causing severe and permanent injuries. She allegedly received injuries to her neck, face, right leg, hand and mouth in the form of knocked-out teeth as well as others that were removed later.

The suit states that store personnel created an incident report, with the name of a witness to the event, but the defendant says that report isn't available.

The plaintiff seeks a trial by jury to determine damages, such as medical expenses and loss of enjoyment of life. She is represented by J. Michael Anderson of Rainelle.
