Resident accuses Laurelwood of negligent hiring, claims employee sexually harassed her

Sexualharassment

LOGAN – A resident of Logan County charges Laurelwood LTD with failing to provide safe housing by continuing to employ a man who allegedly sexually harassed her.

Tia Greenlee filed a suit in Logan Circuit Court Dec. 30 against Laurelwood LTD, citing negligent hiring, provision of an unsafe living space and invasion of privacy as cause for her emotional distress and related anguish while living in the defendant’s residential unit.

According to her claim, Greenlee was living in housing provided by the defendant in August when she called the defendant’s employee to repair a minor damage in the unit. The employee identified only as Wesley reportedly made unwanted sexual advances to Greenlee and physically touched her breasts twice without consent or provocation. The plaintiff reported the incident to property manager Michelle Meade on Sept. 14, but despite verbal assurance that Wesley would not be permitted to work on the premises, Greenlee observed Wesley working on the premises on Sept. 16.

The plaintiff charges the rental company with negligent hiring and continued employment of Wesley, who acted in such a way to make her feel unsafe in her home. She claims the defendant’s actions were willful and malicious in nature, causing her to feel violated and mentally abused.

Greenlee seeks compensatory and punitive damages, past and future damages, litigation fees and pre- and post-judgment interest. She is represented by Stephen S. Wolfe of the Wolfe Law Office in Logan. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge William Douglas Witten.
