Woman sues former employer for alleged age discrimination

Age discrimination2

LOGAN —- A Logan woman claim her age was the reason she was fired from Union North America plant.

Carolyn Adkins filed a lawsuit on Feb. 18 in Logan Circuit Court against Unilin North America LLC and plant manager Andrew Messenger., claiming she was unlawfully terminated because of her age.

Adkins claims that she was an employee of the company for 13 years when she was notified by her supervisors that her position was no longer needed. She goes on to allege that she was replaced with a younger employee whom she had trained. Adkins claims this is age discrimination and is a direct violation of her rights.

Adkins is seeking compensation including lost wages and benefits, front pay, emotional distress, punitive damages, attorney fees and costs, prejudgement interest, and such further relief as the court sees fit. Adkins is being represented by Richard W. Walters of Shaffer & Shaffer LLC in Charleston, West Virginia.
