Driver claims psychological trauma among damages from collision

Car accident 21

RIPLEY – A female motorist and her spouse are suing over alleged continuing damages resulting from an automobile collision.

Natalie D. Holcomb and Joel O. Holcomb filed the suit May 18 in Jackson Circuit Court against Melody Honaker and Justin Dale Honaker.

On Dec. 6, 2014, Natalie Holcomb was driving eastbound on Route 62 in Ripley. At the same time, Melody Honaker was driving her truck in a parking lot adjacent to Route 62. According to the complaint, Honaker drove out of the parking lot, colliding with the vehicle which Holcomb was driving.

Holcomb's airbag deployed and she was taken to the emergency room at Jackson General Hospital, the suit says. While there, the suit alleges, she was in a bed adjacent to the victim of a fatal car crash and witnessed him dying of his injuries.

As a result, Holcomb suffered severe psychological trauma, the suit alleges, and has received counseling.

The counts this suit brings against Honaker are negligence that allegedly caused the collision and loss of consortium between the Holcombs.

The Holcombs seek damages in an amount to be determined by a jury, including medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, mental anguish, lost enjoyment of life and other damages. They also seek pre- and post-judgment interest, court costs and other relief the jury may award. They are represented by Kathy A. Brown of Kathy Brown Law PLLC in Charleston.
