Woman sues PetSmart on behalf of self, dog

Law money 08

BECKLEY — A woman is suing PetSmart Inc. on behalf of herself and her dog, Sierra, citing alleged breach of agreement.

Viola Abrams filed a complaint on June 1 in Raleigh Circuit Court against PetSmart Inc. alleging that the pet services and supplies business negligently handled the grooming of Sierra that resulted in injuries.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on July 13, 2014, she went to the defendant's place of business to have Sierra groomed. However, in the course of the grooming, Sierra sustained injuries, particularly razor burns and a cut on her foot pad that needed suturing, the suit says. The plaintiff alleges that the defendant was only willing to reimburse her for $185.50, the total amount of veterinary expenses, but she claims that damages also include anxiety, emotional distress and anguish that she and her dog experienced.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks not less than $25,000, pre- and post-judgment interest, attorney fees and costs, and any other relief deemed just and equitable. She is represented by Michael E. Froble of Froble Law Office in Beckley.
