Employee accuses health care facility of wrongful termination

Wrongful term 11

PRINCETON — A Mercer County woman is suing a health care facility operator, alleging discrimination, retaliation and wrongful termination.

Lori Shrader filed a lawsuit Sept. 30 in Mercer Circuit Court against Southern Highlands Community Mental Health Center Inc. alleging violation of the Public Safety Act.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 21, 2015, Shrader was terminated from her employment at Southern Highlands. The suit says this caused Shrader to suffer economic damages, including lost wages and benefits and emotional damages, including humiliation, embarrassment and emotional distress.

The plaintiff alleges the defendant recklessly disregarded her rights, retaliated and discriminated against her and terminated her employment for making a good faith report of patient abuse.

Shrader seeks trial by jury, re-employment, all compensatory, general and punitive damages, attorney fees and costs of litigation, pre- and post-judgment interest and all other legal relief. She is represented by attorneys Philip Estep, Todd S. Bailess and Rodney A. Smith of Bailess Smith PLLC in Charleston.
