WINFIELD – A kitchen employee alleges her Hurricane employer owes her for approximately 160 hours of unpaid overtime wages and subjected her to a hostile work environment.

Lisa Runion filed a complaint on Oct. 19 in Putnam Circuit Court against Gus's Mart and Gus Assi alleging that they violated of the West Virginia Minimum Wage Act and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges she regularly worked for more than 40 hours per week without receiving overtime compensation for those hours. She also alleges Assi would call her derogatory names and another employee would sexually harass her, and that the hostile work environment caused her to resign in August.

The plaintiff alleges Gus's Mart and Assi failed and refused pay her overtime wages and for failing to respond to her complaints of harassment.

Runion seeks trial by jury, judgment for all damages, prejudgment interest, attorney fees and costs and all other relief that is deemed just and proper. She is represented by attorneys David M. Adkins and Karin L. Coombe of The Adkins Law Firm PLLC in Hurricane.
