Patient blames Princeton hospital for neck burns

By Philip Gonzales | Jan 4, 2017

PRINCETON — A Mercer County patient is suing a Princeton hospital, alleging the defendant's negligence led to the plaintiff suffering injuries.

Linda Gale Dowell filed a lawsuit Dec. 19 in Mercer Circuit Court against Princeton Community Hospital Association Inc. alleging violation of the West Virginia Medical Professional Liability Act.

According to the complaint, on Oct. 16, 2014, Princeton Community's nursing staff prepared Dowell for surgery for the removal of a mass from her left supraclavicular area. Due to the nursing staff's negligence, the suit says, Dowell sustained second-degree burns on her left neck through her left earlobe that resulted in pain and suffering and disfigurement.

The plaintiff alleges the nursing staff failed to exercise the required skills in preparing Dowell for her surgery and failed to inspect her supraclavicular area of flammable materials.

Dowell seeks trial by jury, judgment in such amount that will fairly compensate her for injuries, plus costs of court and interest. She is represented by attorney Michael P. Gibson of Gibson, Lefler & Associates in Princeton.
