Medical providers blamed for patient's death

Medical malpractice 07

LOGAN — A Logan County woman is suing medical providers, alleging their negligence led to the death of a patient.

Katherine Shawn Sipple, individually and as executor of the estate of Everett Lee Vance, filed a complaint March 7 in Logan Circuit Court against Logan General Hospital LLC, doing business as Logan Regional Medical Center, and Dr. Riza Mina Jose, alleging they breached the standard of care in treating Vance.

According to the complaint, after Vance's admission at Logan Regional on Feb. 12, 2015, he failed to receive any treatment for his perirectal abscess, which increased his risk of having a stroke. Subsequently, the suit says, he suffered a stroke Feb. 22, 2015 and died Sept. 10, 2015.

The plaintiff alleges the defendants failed to conduct a complete an adequate evaluation of Vance's medical condition and failed to recognize that he was presented with significant perirectal abscess.

Sipple seeks trial by jury, compensatory damages, interest and all other just and fair relief. She is represented by attorneys P. Gregory Haddad of Bailey & Glasser LLP in Morgantown, and by Rodney A. Smith of Bailess Smith PLLC in Charleston.
