BECKLEY — A Raleigh County man is suing a mortgage company, alleging abusive business practices and wrongful foreclosure.

Steven C. Campbell Jr. of Mount Hope filed a complaint April 4 in Raleigh Circuit Court against Midland Mortgage Co., alleging violation of the West Virginia Consumer Credit Protection Act.

According to the complaint, as a result of Midland's abusive conduct, Campbell suffered great stress, anxiety, annoyance and fear of losing his home. The plaintiff alleges Midland Mortgage withheld funds in a suspense account rather than applying payments to Campbell's account, consistently charged excessive late fees and refused to correct its own errors.

Campbell seeks trial by jury, actual and statutory damages, attorney fees, court costs and all other just and equitable relief. He is represented by attorney Paul W. Roop II of Roop Law Office LC in Beckley.
