BECKLEY – A Beckley woman alleges she was injured at a college in Raleigh County because of poor lighting in a walking area.

Angela Dews filed a complaint Oct. 20 in Raleigh Circuit Court against New River Community and Technical College and its president/CEO Dr. L. Marshall Washington alleging negligence.

According to the complaint, the plaintiff alleges that on Nov. 10, 2015, she was a business invitee at defendants' premises when she fell while walking on a poorly lit sidewalk. She alleges she sustained severe and permanent injuries in and about her body resulting in medical related expenses, disabilities and pain and suffering.

The plaintiff holds New River Community and Technical College and Washington responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to inspect the dangerous condition and failed to warn their invitees of the existence of such condition.

The plaintiff requests a trial by jury and seeks compensatory damages, plus interest and costs. She is represented by William H. Harding of Law Offices of William H. Harding PLLC in Charlotte, North Carolina. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge Andrew Dimlich.
