Medical malpractice 05

MOUNDSVILLE – A Wetzel County couple alleges the husband's illness was caused by his exposure to benzene during his employment.

Douglas Steele and Carol Steele filed a complaint Nov. 13 in Marshall Circuit Court against Sistersville Tank Works Inc., Axiall LLC, et al. alleging negligence and other counts.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that at various times during Douglas Steele's employment, he was exposed to benzene-containing products used, manufactured, supplied and/or sold by defendants. He alleges that this exposure caused him to develop chronic lymphocytic leukemia, which was diagnosed in January 2016.

The plaintiffs holds Sistersville Tank Works Inc., Axiall LLC, et al. responsible because the defendants allegedly failed to provide adequate warnings of the hazards associated with exposure to benzene-containing products.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury and seek compensatory and punitive damages, plus interest and all other relief that the court may find just and fair. They are represented by R. Dean Hartley and James C. Wright of Hartley Law Group PLLC in Wheeling. The case has been assigned to Circuit Judge David W. Hummel Jr.
