Mother alleges Ford negligence caused daughter's death in fiery crash

Car accident 45

CHARLESTON — A Raleigh County woman is suing Ford, a driver and car owners, alleging their negligence caused her daughter's death.

Angel Ellen Tyler, as administrator of the estate of Breanna Kristen Bumgarner, filed a complaint Feb. 23 in Kanawha Circuit Court against Ford Motor Company, Ana Morgan Errickson, Mark Errickson and Kristie Errickson, alleging Ford negligently failed to manufacture an automobile that is safe for its intended use.

According to the complaint, on March 22, 2016,  Bumgarner died when her 2014 Ford Mustang caught fire due to a collision on U.S. Highway 33 caused by the pickup truck driven by Anna Errickson, a minor, and owned by Kristen Errickson.

The plaintiff alleges Ford Motor's vehicle failed to provide adequate protection against a potential fire hazard, and Anna Errickson failed to keep the pickup truck under control.

Tyler seeks trial by jury, compensatory and punitive damages, plus interest, attorney fees, court costs and all further relief the court deems just and appropriate. She is represented by attorneys Robert D. Cline Jr., Robert A. Campbell and Brian Bigelow of Farmer, Cline & Campbell PLLC in Charleston, and by R. Grasham Esdale Jr. of Beasley, Allen, Crow, Methvin, Portis & Miles PLLC in Montgomery, Alabama.
