Ex-employee accuses Jackson County Development Center of wrongful termination

Wrongful term 04

RIPLEY — A Mason County woman is suing the Jackson County Developmental Center, alleging gender discrimination and wrongful termination.

Candace Mayes of Letart filed a complaint March 2 in Jackson Circuit Court against Jackson County Developmental Center Inc., alleging violation of the West Virginia Human Rights Act.

According to the complaint, Mayes began working for the center in January 2013. The suit says on March 3, 2017, Mayes was wrongfully terminated form her employment. As a result, Mayes says she has suffered lost wages and benefits, embarrassment, humiliation and emotional distress.

The plaintiff alleges Jackson County Developmental Center discriminated against her and terminated her employment based on her gender and on her alleged past criminal conduct.

Mayes seeks trial by jury, compensatory and punitive damages, plus interest, court costs, attorney fees and all further relief the court deems just and proper. She is represented by attorney Scott H. Kaminski of Kaminski Law PLLC in Charleston.
