HUNTINGTON — A Cabell County man is suing a physician, alleging negligence in the death of his wife
Duane M. Mathis, administrator of the estate of Shelley R. Mathis, filed a complaint on March 9 in Cabell Circuit Court against Dr. Sona K. Shah, alleging failure to apply the knowledge and practice the skill and care ordinarily used by a well-qualified physician.
According to the complaint, on Jan. 30, 2016, Shelley Mathis sought medical treatment from Shah for symptoms of seizure disorder.
As a result of Shah's negligent acts, the suit says, Mathis suffered recurrence of her seizure disorder, which continued until her death on March 10, 2016. The suit says her family suffered mental anguish, loss of consortium and funeral expenses.
The plaintiff alleges Shah failed to properly diagnose, manage and treat Shelley Mathis' medical condition and negligently advised her to cease taking her seizure medication.
Duane Mathis is seeking compensatory damages, plus interest, court costs and any further relief the court deems just and proper. He is represented by attorney William A. Davis of Butler of Cincione & Dicuccio in Columbus, Ohio.
