Sales manager accuses cemetery management company of discrimination

PRINCETON — A Mercer County woman is suing a cemetery management company and supervisor, alleging discrimination, retaliation and wrongful termination.

Lisa Bowman of Princeton filed a complaint March 22 in Mercer Circuit Court against StoneMor Partners LP, doing business as Woodlawn Memorial Park, and Bryan Hopkins, alleging violation of the West Virginia Human Rights Act.

According to the complaint, as a result of the defendants' discriminatory conduct, Bowman, who had worked for StoneMor since 1999, suffered lost wages and benefits, embarrassment, humiliation, indignity, annoyance and emotional distress after being wrongfully terminated form her employment Oct. 6, 2017. 

The plaintiff alleges the defendants subjected her to adverse employment decisions and hostile work environment, retaliated against her and terminated her employment because of her age (54) and disability.

Bowman seeks trial by jury, compensatory and punitive damages, attorney fees, court costs, pre- and post-judgment interest and all further relief the court deems just and proper. She is represented by attorney Philip A. Reale II of Law Office of Philip A. Reale PLLC in Charleston.
