Eldery woman says restaurant's negligence led to severe arm injury

MORGANTOWN — An elderly customer is suing a Westover restaurant, alleging negligence led to her suffering a severe arm injury.

Betty Lou Goodwin, who is 90 and requires use of a walker, filed a complaint April 2 in Monongalia Circuit Court against Garfield's Restaurant and Pub and Eateries Inc., alleging the defendant failed to maintain the restroom door in a reasonably safe condition.

According to the complaint, on June 20, 2017, Goodwin was at Garfield's restaurant in Westover to have lunch with her family. The suit says Goodwin was injured when a restroom door slammed on her, stripping away two large parts of her arm. Goodwin says suffered severe pain and suffering, constant disturbance for six weeks and severe emotional distress.

The plaintiff alleges Garfield's Restaurant and Pub and Eateries, after being told that the restroom door was defective and dangerous, failed to correct the problem.

Goodwin seeks trial by jury, damages in an amount that is fair and all relief the court deems just and reasonable. She is represented by attorney John R. Goodwin Sr. of Morgantown.
