Police officer accuses Mullens officials of wrongful termination

Wrongful term 08

PINEVILLE — A police officer is suing Mullens and its mayor, alleging discrimination, retaliation and wrongful termination.

Tyler Meadows filed a complaint April 6 in Wyoming Circuit Court against the city of Mullens and Mayor John McKinney, alleging they terminated his employment under the pretext that the plaintiff did not pass a physical test.

According to the complaint, Meadows began working for the Mullens police Aug. 1, 2016. On Jan. 8, 2018, the suit says, Meadows was terminated from his employment due to the work-related injury he suffered Dec. 30, 2016, in a police car crash.

Meadows says he has been severely damaged for lost wages and benefits, mental anguish, aggravation and inconvenience. The plaintiff alleges the city of Mullens and McKinney discriminated against Meadows and terminated his employment for filing a workers' compensation claim and for receiving workers' compensation benefits.

Meadows seeks trial by jury, compensatory, consequential and punitive damages, plus interest, attorney fees, costs and all further relief the court deems just and equitable. He is represented by attorneys James D. McQueen and Chelsea R. Bailey of McQueen Davis PLLC in Huntington.
