Virginia man claims Milton police officer rammed his vehicle

Car accident 40

HUNTINGTON — A Virginia man is suing the city of Milton and one if its police officers, alleging negligence.

Omega Thomas of Portsmouth, Virginia, filed a complaint April 12 in Cabell Circuit Court against police officer Corey Davis and city of Milton, alleging Milton negligently entrusted its cruiser to Davis, an inexperienced driver.

According to the complaint, on May 31, 2016, Thomas was stopped in his 2008 Chevrolet Tahoe at the intersection of U.S. 60 and Hidden Brook Way in Milton. The suit says Davis, in the course of his employment with the city of Milton, negligently caused the police cruiser he was driving to violently strike the rear of Thomas' vehicle.

Thomas says he sustained bodily injuries resulting in pain and suffering, mental anguish, aggravation, lost wages and medical expenses. The plaintiff alleges Davis negligently drove the police cruiser at a high rate of speed, while distracted, and failed to take evasive actions to avoid an accident.

Thomas seeks trial by jury, all damages, plus interest, attorney fees, court costs and all further relief the court deems appropriate. He is represented by attorney Ashley M. Lockwood of Lockwood & Lockwood in Huntington.
