CAMC accused of negligence in discontinuing woman's medicine

CHARLESTON — A Kanawha County couple is suing the Charleston Area Medical Center, alleging negligence.

Julie Sears and Timothy Sears filed a complaint in Kanawha Circuit Court against CAMC alleging that the healthcare provider violated the West Virginia Medical Professional Liability Act.

According to the complaint, the plaintiffs allege that beginning in September 2016 and thereafter, Julie Sears was a patient of the defendant. As a result of defendant's deviations, the plaintiff sustained bodily injuries that resulted in pain and suffering, mental anguish, disfigurement, medical expenses, and embarrassment. The plaintiffs hold CAMC responsible because the defendant allegedly negligently deviated from the applicable standard of medical care and treatment by discontinuing her Vancomycin medication and by failing to restart it.

The plaintiffs request a trial by jury; and seek compensatory damages, plus interest, costs, fees and all further relief as may be allowed by law. They are represented by William S. Druckman and Madonna C. Estep of the Law Offices of Druckman & Estep in Charleston.
