LOGAN — A patient is suing health care providers, alleging sexual assault and battery.

Beverly Eve Adams filed a complaint in Logan Circuit Court against Herbert J. Thomas Memorial Hospital Association and John Doe alleging Thomas Hospital negligently employed Doe without providing proper safeguards and procedures to prevent him from wrongdoing.

According to the complaint, on Jan. 31, 2017, Adams was at Thomas Hospital for treatment for severe abdominal pains. She says she suffered extreme pain and suffering, humiliation, mental distress, medical expenses and lost wages because Doe forcibly sexually and physically assaulted her without her consent and threatened her with bodily harm if she informed anyone.

Adams seeks trial by jury, compensatory and punitive damages, plus interest, court costs and any further relief the court deems proper and just. She is represented by attorney Jason D. Harwood of Harwood Legal PLLC in Logan.
