18 employees accuse Marathon of wrongful discharge

Lawsuits
Wrongful term 08

WAYNE — Eighteen employees are suing the Marathon petroleum company, managers and supervisors, alleging fraud, wrongful discharge, breach of employment contract, promissory estoppel, breach of contract, detrimental reliance, unjust enrichment and defamation.

Danny Hall, Nathan Biddle, Jason Corey et al filed a complaint in Wayne Circuit Court against Marathon Petroleum Corporation, MPLX LP, and Marathon Petroleum Logistics Services LLC, et al, alleging the defendants wrongfully terminated their employees.

According to the complaint, on Feb. 15, 2016, the 18 plaintiffs were fired by Marathon without prior notice of the rules/policies and without prior warning of the defendants' award program policy. The suit says the program states that employees accruing more than 3,500 points in a year would be terminated, and this rule was implemented for the first time after the fact as justification for firing the employees.

The plaintiffs allege the defendants never issued a warning that the employees had violated policies.

The plaintiffs seek trial by jury, damages, expenses, attorney fees and any further proper relief. .
