Now the reckoning begins for COVID overreactions

Our View
Covid

Mayors, governors and other public and private officials across America are being scrutinized for alleged abuses of authority during the year-long COVID-19 hysteria – and well they should be.

Questions that should have been asked and answered remain unanswered and even unasked. Do government officials and private individuals have the right to compel citizens to receive medical interventions they do not desire? Can persons refusing such interventions be lawfully fined, prosecuted, reprimanded, and terminated?

Have any of the vaccines actually been approved? Have any been rigorously tested?

Are the vaccines really vaccines, properly defined?

Can constitutionally-protected rights and freedoms be abrogated any time someone sees, or pretends to see, a bogeyman?

It may take years, if not decades, to sort out all these questions, provide accurate answers and hold the abusers of our rights and freedoms accountable, but the sorting has begun.

Stephanie McCutcheon is one of many employees who refused to get the jab, lost her job as a result, and is now challenging her former employer’s decision to make her continued employment contingent upon compliance with what looks like an arbitrary and quite likely illegal medical intervention.

McCutcheon has filed suit in Greenbrier Circuit Court against Chicago-based Enlivant ES, which owns and operates Seasons Place Assisted Living in Lewisburg, alleging that the facility’s executive director tried to convince her that the vaccines were FDA-approved and safe.

“Plaintiff had performed her own research on the vaccines for COVID-19 and had determined that the appropriate personal medical decision for her was to not take the COVID-19 vaccine,” McCutcheon’s complaint asserts. “Plaintiff continued to protest to her employer that she felt strongly that she could not, and would not, get the vaccine.”

We don’t normally encourage litigation, but these are not normal times. All the would-be tyrants who took advantage of COVID to run roughshod over the rights of American citizens must be held accountable.
