WILLIAMSON – A woman is suing the Mingo County Board of Education after she claims her daughter was slapped by the principal and injured.

CHARLESTON – An attorney is suing Benjamin F. White and his law office after she claims they failed to pay for services provided. Benjamin F. PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Disability attorney Eric C. Conn was arrested Monday and is currently in the Pike County Detention Center and no bond has been set. Conn was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigations and is held for U.S. Marshals. He is being held on undisclosed federal charges.

CHARLESTON – A lawsuit against the Logan County Board of Education has been dismissed from federal court, but the plaintiff’s attorney plans to re-file it. Attorney Ben White says he plans to re-file the lawsuit next week. He said he’s had financial problems as a result of the economy and had to downsize his law practice.

CHARLESTON – Attorney Dave Higgins has announced he would not seek the Democratic nomination for attorney general. “I had very favorable support reactions and I’m thankful for that,” Higgins said. “But, I’ve always said it depends on who else files.” Higgins said Doug Reynolds is a very competent lawyer and is fortunate enough to self-finance his campaign.

CHARLESTON – West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals Chief Justice Menis Ketchum asked the House and Senate to repeal three bills during budget hearings before their finance meetings. Ketchum, along with Justice Allen Loughry, attended the Jan. 18 meetings to discuss the state Supreme Court budget.

MORGANTOWN – A former West Virginia University football player is suing the National Collegiate Athletic Association after he claims it did not protect him enough from head injuries.
