The House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Constitution and Civil Justice will be holding a hearing today on the ACCESS (ADA Compliance for Customer Entry to Stores and Services) Act, which aims to protect small businesses from the widespread abuse of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Two West Virginia Law faculty members have been published on the Oxford Human Rights Hub Blog (OxHRH Blog) recently. Dr. Anne Marie Lofaso, a professor at the West Virginia University College of Law, wrote an article for the blog evaluating the National Labor Relations Board’s (NLRB) unanimous decision to dismiss college football players’ petition for union representation. For the sixth consecutive year, attorney Dale W. Steager has been named editor of the annual “Guidebook to West Virginia Taxes.” The West Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants publishes the guidebook annually and Steager has been the editor since 2010.

Circuit judge helps celebrate National Adoption Month

West Virginia families who have opened their homes and expanded their families by adopting children came out to celebrate National Adoption Month. Joining the celebration was Judge Gary Johnson, Chairman of the Supreme Court’s Court Improvement Program Oversight Board (CIP) since 2001, who gave a speech at the Adoption Day ceremony on Nov. 21, in South Charleston.

WVU law professor's book on human rights published

In 2011, the United Nations established the first set of global standards for preventing businesses from violating human rights by adopted the Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. Now, four years later, a new book has emerged courtesy of a WVU College of Law conference in Sept. 2013.
