CHARLESTON – A series of public hearings with Gov. Joe Manchin's Tax Modernization Project Work Study Group continues this week.
Secretary of Revenue John C. Musgrave said one hearing is scheduled Tuesday at Concord University, Ballroom in the Student Center. Another one is scheduled Thursday at West Virginia University, Lugar Courtroom, College of Law, Evansdale Campus.
Next week, another is scheduled for Sept. 26 at Pierpont Community and Technical College/Braxton County High School, Fairmont/Glenville Center.
Registration at each is from 5:30 p.m. until 6:20 p.m. with the hearing beginning at 6:30 p.m. The purpose of the public hearing is to allow taxpayers to provide suggestions for changing the current tax structure.
"The Work Study Group has been meeting with a variety of people from all over the State," Musgrave said. "The inclusion of so many people provides a wide range of proposals, resulting in a better final product. We are continuing to seek public input."
The Tax Modernization Work Study Group has been assembled for the purpose of systematically researching and analyzing state and local taxation hopefully resulting in the creation of a more modern tax structure which encourages economic growth.
