CHARLESTON -– Since the inception of the Campaign for Legal Aid in 2002, Jackson Kelly has been a lead supporter of the fundraising effort in West Virginia, donating more than $115,000 to the cause.
In the same spirit of supporting legal services, Jackson Kelly now is launching a 'Matched Gift Program', by which the firm will gift $15,000 in 2009 to Legal Aid of West Virginia, and will match each additional dollar donated by the firm's individual lawyers. This matched-gift offer comes with the hopes of breaking the firm's historic donation levels.
"Jackson Kelly has always been a community leader in the area of charitable giving and we are a proud supporter of Legal Aid of West Virginia," said Gretchen M. Callas, Jackson Kelly Assistant Managing Member and a member of the Campaign for Legal Aid Leadership Committee. "We believe that through this Matched Gift Program we can both increase our donation to Legal Aid of West Virginia, and create a model of giving for other organizations to follow."
It is predicted that through the 'Matched Gift Program', Jackson Kelly will commit more than $25,000 in annual charitable giving to Legal Aid of West Virginia.
"The challenging economy threatens Legal Aid's other revenue sources, making fundraising efforts like this increasingly critical to ensure the provision of free civil legal services to West Virginia's most vulnerable citizens" said Adrienne Worthy, Executive Director of Legal Aid of West Virginia.
Also, low interest rates mean that the revenues to the Interest on Lawyers Trust Account (IOLTA) program are projected to be half of what they've been in the past.
Legal Aid of West Virginia is a statewide, non-profit law firm which provides free civil legal services to West Virginia's most vulnerable citizens, including nursing home residents, domestic violence victims, abused and neglected children, families struggling with mental illness or single parents fighting to maintain housing and self-sufficiency.
In 2008, Legal Aid of West Virginia handled over 10,000 cases. For more information on Legal Aid of West Virginia, visit www.lawv.net.
