NEW CUMBERLAND — A Wellsburg couple is suing a Weirton beverage company and employee, alleging their negligence caused a vehicle crash.

Ruth Cline and Wayne Cline filed a complaint March 9 in Hancock Circuit Court against Wine and Beverage Merchants of West Virginia Inc. and Jeffrey T. Freeland, alleging Wine and Beverage negligently entrusted its beer truck to a careless employee.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 28, Ruth Cline was driving northbound on Main Street in Weirton when Freeland carelessly attempted to turn right into the parking entrance of the Strip Steel Credit Union and caused the beer truck owned by Wine and Beverage to violently strike Cline's vehicle.

The suit says Cline sustained injuries to her neck, sternum, left shoulder and other parts of her body. The plaintiffs allege Freeland failed to yield the right of way, failed to provide warning signals and carelessly attempted to make a right-hand turn when it was unsafe to do so.

The Clines seek trial by jury, compensatory damages, plus interest, attorney fees, costs and all further relief the court deems just and appropriate. They are represented by attorney David A. Jividen of Jividen Law Offices PLLC in Wheeling.
