LEWISBURG – Senior Status Judge James J. Rowe is looking for new challenges after re-emerging himself in private practice after nearly 20 years on the bench as chief judge in Greenbrier and Pocahontas counties. Rowe still serves as a senior status judge and will continue to do so in that capacity while in private practice at Dinsmore & Shohl LLP.
HUNTINGTON – District Judge Robert C. Chambers denied a motion for default judgment in a lawsuit against AutoZone for injuries sustained on its property. On Oct. 22, the plaintiff, Mary Jane Goodall, filed an application for entry of default judgment and supporting affidavit and a motion for default judgment, according to the order.
CLARKSBURG – A woman is suing Zales Jewelers after she claims it violated the West Virginia Wage Payment and Collection Act. Ashley Bond was employed as a consultant and manager with Zales until her employment was involuntarily terminated on Dec. 7, 2013, according to a complaint filed Feb. 9 in Harrison Circuit Court and removed to federal court on March 18.
GLENVILLE – A company in Pennsylvania is suing Glenville-based S.S. Services to collect an allegedly unpaid judgment against it for nearly $23,000, plus interest and attorney’s fees.

CHARLESTON – A couple is suing KC Transport after they claim it is operating an unlawful coal trucking route that is a nuisance. Hampden Coal LLC; Blackhawk Mining WV LLC; and Gary Corns were also named as defendants in the suit. WHEELING – A federal judge has ruled that U.S. EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy will be deposed in a lawsuit about coal mining regulations despite a bid by the agency to block it. On Nov. 12, Judge John Preston Bailey ruled that McCarthy’s involvement with Clean Air Act regulations means she is relevant enough to be deposed.
