CLEVELAND – Plaintiff lawyers in national opioid litigation chose their executive committee so poorly that a federal judge made them choose again. A protest against the original committee had rung out from West Virginia. As a result, four lawyers lost seats, and five replaced them.

WASHINGTON – Judges on a national panel must decide whether to consolidate opioid suits of local governments and, if so, whether to send them to West Virginia, Illinois or Ohio.

CHARLESTON – Four lawsuits against drug distributors for allegedly contributing to the opiate epidemic have been removed to federal court. The lawsuits were filed by Mayor Charles Sparks, on behalf of the town of Kermit; Mayor Vivian Livinggood, on behalf of the town of Gilbert; Mayor Reba Honaker, on behalf of the city of Welch; and the Lincoln County Commission.

PRINCETON – The Mercer County Commission is suing three major drug wholesalers, a physician and the West Virginia Board of Pharmacy after it claims they are responsible for flooding the state with prescription drugs.

WILLIAMSON – Mayor Vivian Livinggood has filed a lawsuit on behalf of the town of Gilbert against the drug wholesalers and the West Virginia Board of Pharmacy for the prescription drug epidemic that has ravaged the state.

WILLIAMSON – The Mingo County town of Kermit has joined the list West Virginia, a handful of counties and a few communities that have filed lawsuits against five drug companies it claims helped fuel an opioid epidemic within in the town and across the state The suit, filed Jan. 31 in Mingo Circuit Court, names McKesson Corporation, AmerisourceBergen Drug Corporation, Cardinal Health, Miami-Luken and HD Smith Corporation as well as former Kermit clinic owner Cameron Justice as defendants.
