CHARLESTON – A dozen years after his first campaign for the state Supreme Court, Brent Benjamin says a lot of things are different this year on the campaign trail.
MOUNDSVILLE – The West Virginia State Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police has endorsed Supreme Court Justice Brent Benjamin for re-election to the Supreme Court.
WHEELING – A Ohio County man is suing an oil and metals recycling firm to enforce an agreement that allegedly stipulates the company must repurchase stock once a stockholder is deceased.
CHARLESTON – Two state Supreme Court candidates utilizing the public finance option in the race have spent nearly $150,000 on television ads. Incumbent Justice Brent Benjamin and Beckley attorney Bill Wooton have combined to spend $148,870 on TV ads, according to Federal Communications Commission records.
KINGWOOD – A Preston County property owner says a lessee allowed preventable vandalism to the plaintiff's property, and that an insurance company is refusing to cover the damages.
GRAFTON – A Taylor County man is suing a property owner and a utility company for injuries he allegedly suffered when a tree he felled with a chainsaw touched electrical lines.
CHARLESTON – With the upcoming election in May, Supreme Court Justice Brent Benjamin has released TV advertisements with testimonials about his work developing and expanding the state’s Drug Court program.
HUNTINGTON – A lawsuit against Wal-mart for an Achilles’ tendon injury has been dismissed from federal court. The lawsuit was dismissed on Jan. 12 by District Judge Robert C. Chambers after the plaintiff, Jennifer Bradshaw, and Wal-mart resolved all issues involved in the complaint and moved to have the lawsuit dismissed. The lawsuit was dismissed with prejudice.
CLARKSBURG – The federal government is suing a convicted landlord after it claims he discriminated against tenants based on their sex. Brian Carl Walden, as conservator for Gary Walden, a protected person, and as administrator CTA of the estate of Tina Walden; Walden Homes LLC, which is doing business as Walden Rentals; and 973 Chestnut Ridge Road Inc. were also named as defendants in the suit.
MORGANTOWN – A Morgantown man is suing Stonerise Health Care LLC after he claims he was discriminated against because of his disability and sexual orientation.
CHARLESTON – The first television advertisements in the race for state Supreme Court will be appearing soon. According to Washington-based Justice at Stake, Federal Communications Commission records show the campaign of former state lawmaker Bill Wooton has purchased ads to run in the Beckley/Bluefield, Charleston/Huntington and Clarksburg television markets. The cost is at least $28,380, according to the FCC records.
