    WINFIELD – A Putnam County husband and wife are suing an oil and gas company, alleging it damaged their property while drilling.John S. Casto and Cheryl Casto filed a lawsuit Sept. 4 in Putnam Circuit Court against Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation, alleging breach of contract and negligence.

    WINFIELD – A Cabell County woman blames a hospital, physician and nurse for missing signs that her sister was about to have a stroke. Joyce L. Stevens, the sister and Power of Attorney for Sharon E. Burge, filed her complaint Sept. 15 in Putnam Circuit Court against Pleasant Valley Hospital Inc., Dr. Zachary B. Adkins and Shelly Willham, a Certified Family Nurse Practitioner. Burge is a resident of Racine, Ohio.

    WINFIELD – A Putnam County woman says she fractured her wrist when she tripped over boxes scattered on the floor at a Dollar General store. Diane Ruby Dotson filed her complaint Sept. 15 in Putnam Circuit Court against Dolgencorp LLC, doing business at Dollar General. Dotson says she was a guest at the Dollar General in Buffalo on Aug. 8, 2014, when the incident occurred.

    CHARLESTON – West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey’s office has filed its own lawsuit against a Putnam County funeral home accused of violating the state’s Preneed Funeral Contracts Act. In the complaint, filed Sept. 18 in Kanawha Circuit Court, Morrisey’s office says Gatens-Harding Funeral Home of Poca and owners Chad and Billie Harding misappropriated money from consumers who were trying to prepay their funeral costs and did not register some preneed funeral contracts with the state

    WINFIELD – A Putnam County couple who operate an assisted living home and another man say a neighboring garage continually blocks the right of way to adjacent property. Pamela and Tim Dolan with James Qualls filed their complaint against John Gill and Gills Garage in Putnam Circuit Court.

  • Walmart seeks to have Putnam woman's Achilles case dismissed

    HUNTINGTON – Walmart seeks to dismiss a Putnam County woman’s complaint in which she blames the retailer for having her Achilles’ tendon sliced while shopping for back-to-school supplies. Jennifer Bradshaw originally filed her complaint in Putnam Circuit Court, but Walmart filed a motion to have it moved to federal court Sept. 2 in Huntington.

    WINFIELD – A Putnam County Schools employee says a doctor damaged her reputation by claiming she was a drug abuser in her medical records. Amanda L. Byus filed her complaint Aug. 28 in Putnam Circuit Court against Dr. Fadi W. Alkhankan, University Physicians & Surgeons Inc. dba Marshall Health and up to 50 John Does who might be responsible in some way.

    WINFIELD – A Putnam County judge has told the state Attorney General’s office and the state’s largest newspaper to talk things over before coming back to his courtroom for the next hearing about a possible antitrust violation.
