AG outside counsel bill passes House, heads to Senate

CHARLESTON – A House bill to codify Attorney General Patrick Morrisey’s outside counsel policy is headed to the state Senate. House Bill 4007 passed the House of Delegates on Jan. 25 on a 96-1 vote. It would restrict fees to outside counsel hired by the state Attorney General’s office and prevent those attorneys from contributing to that attorney general’s re-election campaign while working for the state.

CHARLESTON – A lawsuit against the Logan County Board of Education has been dismissed from federal court, but the plaintiff’s attorney plans to re-file it. Attorney Ben White says he plans to re-file the lawsuit next week. He said he’s had financial problems as a result of the economy and had to downsize his law practice.

CHARLESTON – A Poca couple is suing Herbert J. Thomas Memorial Hospital Association after they claim it caused injuries during surgery. Dr. Betty A. Goad was also named as a defendant in the suit. Donna Parsons was admitted to TMH on June 26, 2013, for performance of a robotic assisted vaginal hysterectomy performed by Goal and utilizing a da Vinci robot, according to a complaint filed in Kanawha Circuit Court.
